Coupon and ticket printing have been among the most popular self-service kiosks.
A typical configuration for these kiosks
consist of:
- X6 kiosk (in some cases an X5 kiosk with extended back).
- 19" LCD with a Touch screen Overlay
- Printer: high end thermal ticket printer for cinemas, concerts
low end thermal receipt printer (with barcode) for coupons
- Identity: barcode readers are used to read membership cards or
concession cards.
- Payments: credit card swipe, debit cards or cash acceptors (Bill and/or Coins)
change is rarely given
the ticket or coupon doubles as receipt for the payment.
- The magnetic stripe reader (typically a wedge or swipe reader),
can be used to read the credit cards, membership cards or concession cards.
- A keyboard + trackball is only used when you want the customers' details, like an email address.
Touch screen input for large amounts of data (like names and street addresses) don't work very well;
Most people are used to keyboards for data entry.
- A secondary overhead monitor can be used to advertise
the new showing in a cinema or food specials.

Cinemas are the most common places for self service kiosks for tickets and coupons.
Hotel lobbys are a good second.
