Slabb Solutions: Human Resource Kiosks

HR is difficult, it becomes even more so when plagued by issues like low compliance, and reactive instead of proactive.  Offering your entire organization required tools and access  without burning your resources scheduling and chasing is paramount

With a Slabb kiosk our customers have been able to offer secure guided and self-service access to internet and intranet HR products and functions.

HR kiosks are used by companies, sometimes as a way to conform to union and rules or laws, displayng insurance papers, but mostly as a way to inform individual workers of their benefits and rights.

A typical configuration for these kiosks consist of:
  • C5 C6, C7, X5 or X6 kiosk.
    • 19" LCD with a Touch screen Overlay
    • Identity: magnetic stripe readers or barcode readers are used to read employee number.
    • The magnetic stripe reader (typically a wedge or swipe reader), can be used to read theemployee cards or concession cards.
    • A keyboard + trackball is only used when you want the customers' details, like an email address. Touch screen input for large amounts of data (like names and street addresses) don't work very well; Most people are used to keyboards for data entry.
    • A secondary overhead monitor can be used to advertise the new showing in a cinema or food specials.

Typically 1 kiosk for every 50 to 100 employees is installed, but this number depends on:

  • the work environment:.
    • an office environment would not need many kiosks: 1 kiosk for every 75 to 100 employees
    • shop floor would need 1 kiosk for every 30 to 50 employees.
  • the number of services offered on the kiosk.
    • offering only safety information will not attract users
  • the “enforcement” of using the kiosk versus “allowing” the employees to contact HR personnel.
    • Most companies have a kiosk next to the entrance of the HR dept, with a clear sign ...
    • the quality of relationship the company has with the employees
      • the better the relationship the more employees will use the kiosk
Most companies would make the following services only available through the kiosk:
  • leave applications, like:
    • holiday
    • sick leave
    • parental leave
  • benefits applications, like:
    • health
    • insurances
    • childcare
    • transport
  • applications for tools, stationary, PCs etc
  • (non-urgent) service requests
  • general information, like
    • representations, like
      • company
      • union
    • complaints, ideas and suggestions
  • compulsary information, like:
    • safety
    • company insurances
    • taxes
  • salary - enquiries
The kiosk would include a letter wide thermal printer, or laser printer to print copies of application forms etc.
