with a receipt and activated card. The
kiosk purchase of gift and loyalty cards is
truly one of the most comforting in the
retail environment.
Kiosks are more and more used to dispense and issue cards, with monetary value.
This value might be either a credit in a shopping mall , like a loyalty card or gift card, or
a credit with a local government, as part of a out reach or social benefit program.
In the latter case the kiosk will issue a pre-paid credit card, which can be used like any
other credit card.
Gift card issuing kiosks are replacing service desk selling gift vouchers quickly.
A typical configuration for a card-with-value dispensing or issuing kiosk is:

- 19" LCD with a Touch screen Overlay
- Card dispenser, with the following options:
- Dispensing of the card only
- Reading the IC, Magnetic Stripe and/or RFID
upon dispensing.
- Writing and reading the IC, Magnetic Stripe and/or RFID
upon dispensing.
- ID (passport and/or drivers license) reader and authenticator can be a requirement in some countries and
states to prevent laundering of money.
- Payment methods: credit card swipe, debit cards or cash acceptors (Bill and/or Coins); change is rarely given
- A keyboard + trackball is only used when you want the customers' details, like an email address.
Touch screen input for large amounts of data (like names and street addresses) don't work very well;
Most people are used to keyboards for data entry.
- A secondary overhead monitor can be used to advertise
the new showing in a cinema or food specials.
