Slabb Solutions: Bill payment, Check Depist and Banking Kiosks

The location, nature, and parties of financial transactions has changed.  We are no longer in the world of only writing checks for bills and handing cash to tellers to cover them.  The ATM machine was a start, but ATMs fail to reach everyone and really only replaces a few  type of transactions.  Kiosks are positioned to pick up where ATMs, banks, and other financial transaction facilitators leave off.  Our kiosks are being used to dispense pre-paid credit cards, pay bills, transfer money, take cash deposits, and set up utility accounts.  The range of services is nearly limitless.

These systems can be complex with connectivity, security, compliance, service and usability issues that require expertise and experience with all facets of their operation.  Slabb designs and builds kiosks for finance companies expanding their offerings as well as for companies offering independent financial services for the unbanked and underserved populations.  Wheel reinvention is never very productive, if you have an business, idea, or location requiring a financial services kiosk give us a call, we can point you in the right direction or use our expertise to get you started on a kiosk of your own.

Kiosks are used for church collections, donations, pay bills, and pay bond for jailed loved ones. Using kiosks to pay fines in Sherriff offices have become popular as well.
Avoiding the queues to pay bills in Kenya, Spain or Ohio has the same priority for all customers. Each bank or company would have different solutions, although they all involve a bill recognition, typically through a barcode, and various payment options; credit/debit cards and cash. Change is typically not given as it involves another layer of maintenance for these kiosks.

Key in these systems is the back office connectivity with the company and/or bank to recognize the bill and register the payment.

A typical configuration for these kiosks consist of:
  • X6 kiosk (in some cases an X5 kiosk with extended back).
    • 19" LCD with a Touch screen Overlay
    • Thermal receipt printer
    • Barcode readers are used to read bill number.
    • Credit card swipe, debit cards or cash acceptors (Bill and/or Coins); change is rarely given
the ticket or coupon doubles as receipt for the payment.
  • A keyboard + trackball is only used when you want the customers' details, like an email address. Touch screen input for large amounts of data (like names and street addresses) don't work very well; Most people are used to keyboards for data entry.
  • A secondary overhead monitor can be used for marketing messages and to advertise for services.

These type of kiosks can be found in shopping malls, sheriff offices, retail areas and many other areas.
